Last year, we planted Hopi red dye amaranth. It grew, but not as much as I had hoped and expected. I had thought it was the soil…but after walking through the swales the other night, I’ve changed my mind.

Last year’s amaranth
It appears, that the birds spread the seed for me. This amaranth is growing all throughout the back, and is already taller than it was at this time last year.
This year, we planted a few different varieties and they are, so far, doing much better than the red did last year. But, I’m excited to see that nature has worked its magic and made the back even more beautiful with these burgundy beauties.
