An Even Dozen

I collected a dozen eggs today. That’s right, I filled an entire egg carton in one trip to the coop. We have been averaging 10 eggs a day for the past week, so this moment was extremely exciting.

As a special treat, I cut a bunch of borage from the kitchen garden and took it out to the chickens.

They LOVE borage…almost as much as watermelon.

We have three slackers. I’m not sure who they are yet, but I suspect three of the older hens have run out of eggs.

And you know what that means…

The girls laid a dozen eggs
From small to extra large
One lady walked with head held high
She thought she was in charge

But soon the others let her know
That she would need to forage
For food, for meals for treats and more
The workers get the borage
