I thought all of the raspberries we planted in the swales had been destroyed by Japanese Beetles. The last time I looked at them, they were sad outlines of once strong raspberry plants.
Yet, while out walking yesterday, I came upon new growth on almost every single one we planted.
A couple even look stronger than before the attack.
One plant still looks rather lacy from its encounter with the beetles, but it is starting to turn green and perk up…just in time for cool fall weather.
And one has completely regrown. This little lady, once brown and shriveled, has returned brighter, greener and (I hope) stronger than before.
All but the root is attacked
All but the strong and stout root
Pests will impair, but never destroy
A plant that is so resolute
