Baby Food April

Tuesday I made baby food for another month. My little guy has a voracious appetite and we are going through the “cubes” a lot faster than I anticipated. Luckily, that means he is drinking fewer and fewer bottles so we are not spending as much on formula. However, even though we will be buying less formula, with two growing boys our grocery bill will not be going down anytime soon!

Wild Rice Cereal – See March post

Green Bean and Pea Puree
2 cans of green beans
1 can of peas
Drain both cans of green beans and pour into blender or food processor. Add the undrained can of peas and blend until it is a puree.

I tried to make just a pea puree but Jake made an awful face and it was a bit watery so I combined it with the green beans and he seems to like it.

Carrot and Apple Puree
3-4 carrots, peeled and cut into pieces
1 apple peeled and cored
Cook apple and carrots until soft. I cooked the carrots in the microwave and saved the juice for the rice cereal. I also cooked the apple in the microwave. Throw it all in a blender or food processor until it is a puree. Divide into ice-cube trays and freeze. Voila!

Baby Food – March

Yesterday I made enough baby food for another month. Here’s the rundown:

Green Peas
Bag of frozen or fresh green peas. Cook in microwave in 1/2 cup of more of water. Let cool slightly and pour all into blender or food processor. Process until smooth.

Zucchini and Banana
One small zucchini and one banana.
Cut ends off of zucchini leaving skin on. Cut in half lengthwise and then in 1/2 inch chunks. Boil on stove or in microwave in 1/4-1/2 cup of water. Let cool slightly and transfer all to food processor or blender. Add one banana and process until smooth.

Wild Rice Cereal
Wild rice (or any other kind you like). I used a cup but you can adjust to fit your needs.
Cook as you normally would, let cool and transfer to blender or food processor. Process until smooth, adding water, breast milk or formula as needed.

I also made another small batch of the avocado and banana from February’s post. Little Jake just loved it!

Home Made Baby Food – February

Making your own baby food is a huge money saver not to mention a healthier option than jarred food. I have made my own baby food for both of my boys. The only equipment you need is a blender or food processor, a few ice-cube trays and some Ziploc bags. Last weekend I made green beans, avocado and banana and butternut squash. It took me a total of 1 hour and then a few minutes to pop the frozen baby food cubes in freezer bags. Now I have a month’s worth of meals for my little guy.
